August Meeting Canceled

There is an “invasive weed” in our garden club schedule — the Delta variant of COVID-19. Many of us have concerns, and therefore the social gathering that was planned during our March planning session will not be held. We are hopeful that we will all be and stay well, to meet again in person in September.

Thank you to everyone who came out in May, June, and July for our meetings. We do plan to meet in September, so watch for details. We’d hoped to recommend attending the annual Tomato Fest, but the word from the Extension Agency is that, “Due to problems with the Delta variant of COVID-19 it has been decided that we will hold a Tomato Tasting similar to what we did last year. The event will be held in our office with tomato entries only being accepted from our Master Gardeners or our Master Gardener interns. We are still working on the details for the event and have not made any announcements.” They will keep us posted; we will update on the GEG Facebook page.

On another note, the Boys and Girls Club located in Charles Town is eager to have help cleaning out their gardens (ummmm … as in really weedy spaces) and replanting. The Rotary Club of Charles Town has been asked to lend a hand and they reached out to us for assistance. The cleanup is tentatively planned for October, so if you are interested in helping, let Kathy Dillon know. This could be a nice project for us to close out our 2021 season!

Planning for 2022 is never too early! We are always happy to have your suggestions and referrals to people in the community who will share their garden-related expertise with us!
