Raised Bed Gardening & Mulching with Peter Yates
Peter will share with us how he uses local resources to amend the soil, including straw, recycling-center wood mulch, wood chippings from county road maintenance, Leafgro, cedar and pine mulch, mushroom waste, sand, peat moss, well-composed horse and hay loads, plus epsom salts, sulfur, fertilizer (10-10-10 and (5-10-10) and rock phosphate.
Peter is a family gardener. He is pleased to say that the love of gardening is in his nature.
Breakfast begins at 9:00am (indoors) followed by the program at 9:30am (outdoors). No need to bring chairs this time. Bring a breakfast food to share and garden plants for exchange. Plants for exchange may be placed in front of the garage door. Rain or shine.
Directions: From Shepherdstown, take Shepherd Grade Road, then make a left onto Scrabble Road, go several miles, then turn left onto Mandela Road. The Yates residence is at the end of the cul d’sac.
From Martinsburg: Take Route 45 toward Shepherdstown. Turn left onto Files Cross Road, go 1.1 miles and turn right onto Swan Pond Road. Go 0.6 miles and turn left onto Cedar Lane. Go 2.3 miles and turn left onto Scrabble Road. In 0.3 miles turn left onto Mandela Road.
Parking: Come up the driveway, turn around and park facing out on the grassy area.
