Beautiful gardens and habitats around the schoolyard become classrooms where volunteers teach a variety of lessons! Roots & Shoots strives to provide outdoor educational experiences to each student across the elementary years that enriches students’ science education and inspires themes in library, art, music and language arts instruction.
KINDERGARTEN LESSON: Thursday’s planting in the butterfly garden has moved to Thursday, May 4. It will be at the same time as before (12:45–2:30pm). If you’ve always thought about signing up to help with a lesson but haven’t, this is a great one to start with. Go to the Kindergarten lesson sign up.
1st GRADE LESSONS: We could use a few more helping hands with the 1st grade lessons. They are on Mondays from 11:30am–2:00pm. When it comes to helping out, a little can go a long way. Signing up to help out with even one lesson can make a huge difference. Sign up online or contact Shayna Carney.
SUNDAY, MAY 7 – REDBUD FESTIVAL: Shepherdstown Elementary School’s annual Redbud Festival is Sunday, May 7 from 2–5pm. Roots & Shoots will be hosting a table where children can make newspaper seed pots and plant a sunflower seed. Help introduce kids of all ages to the wonders of plants! Go to the sign up page.
PLANTS NEEDED FOR THE REDBUD FESTIVAL PLANT SALE!!! Now is the time to separate and divide. Donate those extra plants to the SES Redbud Festival plant sale. Please put your plants in pots and label them. Plants may be dropped off in the school’s courtyard beginning Friday, May 5.
